New Japanese collection databases from Japan Digital Archives Center (J-DAC)

Princeton users now have permanent access to two new databases from the Japan Digital Archives Center (J-DAC):

  1. Onlin-ban Edogawa Ranpo Harimaze nenpu (オンライン版  江戸川乱歩 貼雑年譜) and Onlin-ban Edogawa Ranpo Harimaze nenpu hoi (オンライン版  江戸川乱歩 貼雑年譜  補遺)

The Harimaze Nenpu (Chronologically recorded scrapbook) is an autobiographical compilation created by a leading writer of Japanese detective fiction, Edogawa Ranpo. Spanning from 1894 to 1964, the set consists of approximately 2,600 items which Ranpo systematically affixed materials and records he had collected and organized with explanatory notes to these items. This database enables comprehensive cross-search to entire scrap books. The Edogawa Ranpo Harimaze nenpu hoi is a supplemental collection of drafts, conceptual notes, and discarded manuscripts that were not included in Edogawa Ranpo Harimaze nenpu.

  1. Online-ban Records of Japan’s Defense Agency (オンライン版 防衛政策史資料)

This collection consists of government documents held by the National Archives of Japan, primarily related to defense and security policies from the 1950s through the 1980s. The materials are divided into two main categories: the “Defense Agency Historical Materials” (Bōeichō-shi shiryō), compiled for the purpose of creating the official history of the Defense Agency, and the personal papers of defense bureaucrats, the 久保文書 and the 伊藤文書.
